Public Art
The Cooper Hawk
Public Mural Installation for the City of Rancho Cucamonga Utility Box Beautification Program, Celebrating Resilience, Wildlife, and Regional Identity

Concept

A nature inspired mural takes flight in the heart of Rancho Cucamonga, celebrating the majesty of a local Cooper hawk, against the backdrop of the local desert landscape. The mural captures the essence of this graceful faclon, posing in outhern California.

Set against rolling hills and warm earth tones, the Cooper’s hawk becomes a symbol of resilience and freedom. Its keen gaze reflects the power and determination of nature, mirroring the endurance and adaptability needed to thrive in the arid Southern California environment.

Artistic Intent

Just as the prickly pear cactus in the companion proposal embodies harmony with the desert, “The Cooper Hawk” conveys unity with local wildlife. The mural serves as a reminder of our connection to the natural world, promoting appreciation for the ecosystems that define Rancho Cucamonga and respect for the creatures that inhabit it.

Through this work, the natural and living elements that shape the region are brought forward as central themes, highlighting the importance of preserving balance within the local landscape.

Scope & Execution

The project was developed as part of the City of Rancho Cucamonga Utility Box Beautification Program. The proposal includes concept development, scaled renderings, surface preparation, hand-painted execution, protective varnishing, and full project oversight.

Designed for durability, visual clarity, and community impact, the mural integrates fine art sensibility with public infrastructure, transforming an everyday utility structure into a point of pride and reflection within the urban environment.
